Introducing Montane's ThermoPlume Jackets

We are hugely excited to introduce into our range, two new jackets from one of our most popular brands, Montane. The Women's Phoenix ThermoPlume Jacket and the Men's Icarus ThermoPlume Jacket. These jackets are engineered for the warmth that their respective monikers evoke and they look absolutely fantastic too. They have a modern, understated design and athletic cut for the optimum outdoor performance.

Lightweight, but High Quality

You’d be forgiven for thinking that a jacket that boasts such superb levels of heat retention would come with added weight. Weighing in at just 584 grams for the men’s jacket and 474 grams for the women’s jacket (this is an average and will vary, depending on the size). It packs so much warmth into such a lightweight and high-quality winter coat.

This is thanks to the first-class PrimaLoft® ThermoPlume insulation, after which the jacket takes its name. This is a carefully-formulated blend of synthetic fibres which offer better loft and shape retention over time, compared to naturally sourced insulation, with all the same thermal benefits.

Although, technically, nothing works better than what nature has created over millions of years. Nature, in fairness, didn’t anticipate that we would shave a sheep and place it inside a jacket, so this man-made alternative is produced for this reason. It’s also faster-drying, if it were to get wet (… and it saves bothering the sheep for their wool too).

So we’ve established that this jacket is lightweight and super warm, but let’s take a closer look at the more technical aspects of these jackets which make them so great…

Fabric

The material that comprises the outer fabric is Pertex® Quantum Eco - a very fancy name but the quality is very much deserving. This fabric is totally windproof and water resistant, ideally suited to combatting very cold and windy conditions. This will also keep you dry throughout light rainfall thanks to the DWR (durable water repellent) finish. The DWR assists any moisture that lands on the jacket to simply bead away.

Insulation

This material is stitched into “micro baffles,” inside which the insulation lives. These baffles keep the insulation evenly spread and make sure it doesn’t clump, which would otherwise lead to cold spots.

Lining

The PEAQ Synthetic ECO inner lining is wonderfully soft and feels luxuriously comfortable against your skin - although we’d expect you to be wearing something between yourself and the jacket. Nevertheless, this is another illustration of its excellent quality, inside and out.

The Fit

Even more care and thought has gone into the how the jackets are constructed, taking into consideration the possibly-arduous activities for which they will be used. Articulated arms help you to reach further and move easier. There’s also an insulated hood, which can fit nice and comfortably under a climbing helmet, if that’s what’s needed.

Finishing Touches

The jackets have a top-quality YKK zip and a range of pockets to keep your stuff safe and your hands warm. Stretch cuffs and hems are all excellent finishing touches, which can leave you with the confidence that this jacket is all you will need for any purpose this winter.
