It’s nearly that time of year when you need to dig out your wellies as we enter the darker winter months. Once the clocks go back and nights start to draw in fast the temperature drops noticeably and we all look forward to some early snow arriving! This year at Simply Hike we made the decision to choose higher quality welly boot brands that wouldn’t have such a high return rate and selected Muck Boots and Aigle to replace the ‘fashionable’ brands. Many people think that all wellies are made equally and they really aren’t. We’ve dedicated this blog to all things welly and to look at the brands we are offering this winter in more detail.
Muck Boots:
The Original Muck Boot Company manufactures really durable and robust welly boots with a difference; yes they still have a rubber sole but this is coupled with an incredibly comfortable, insulated and waterproof neoprene that fits around the calf. These wellies aren’t afraid of getting dirty and will withstand the harshest of conditions.
Muck Boots such as the bestselling Muckmaster for men and the womens new Arctic range look really smart but they’ve got some serious features that you’ll find very useful in the cold and rain. They have a stretch fit topline binding which fits snugly but not tightly around your leg and will keep the cold out. Fashion boots are often worn with a gap around the top of the boot which lets cold air in meaning your feet won’t warm up and can cause a sweaty chill. A 5mm neoprene with a four way stretch fits around the legs to keep them insulated and a 2mm thermal foam underlay in the instep area adds additional warmth.
The MuckMaster and womens Arctic Adventure and Arctic Weekend boots actually include a moulded EVA midsole which provide stability and cushioning during your walk or work. This means that they’re basically like a walking boot and means your feet won’t tire even if you’re out walking in them all day. The sole unit is really aggressive for maximum stability, grip and protection on the slipperiest and roughest of surfaces. Who’s ever said that about a cheap fashion welly?
Each Muck Boot has been tested to keep feet warm (without unnecessary welly socks) down to -30 degrees and comfortable up to 20 degrees Celsius which means you can wear them throughout the year.
The team at Simply Hike have found the Muck Boots to be the most comfortable wellies they’ve ever tried and we’re all looking forward to wearing them this Autumn!
Aigle:
Aigle began manufacturing wellies in France in 1853 and their name stands for uncompromising quality and craftsmanship. Their boots are still handcrafted in France and they use the best natural rubber available. Their factory staff undergo two years of training to perfect their trade and they’re hand made so they don’t just come out of a machine mould. This hands on approach means each boot is inspected at every stage of the manufacturing process and this means a very low customer return rate to our store. We’ve added in Aigle welly boots to our range because they’ll satisfy the fashion conscious crowd but they’re truly made to last unlike other fashion welly brands.
So avoid this seasons most fashionable welly and invest in a good pair like the boots featured here that look good (available in different colours) and are super comfortable and will most importantly so their job and last!
